Guy moved to farm at Sandystones, near Jedburgh in the Borders in 1991 with three young children and wife Philippa, where son Hugo took over the management of the business with daughter in law Jess in 2017. On a total of 240 hectares they grow combinable crops of wheat, winter and spring barley, oilseed rape and oats. 500 head of Angus sired cattle are bought annually as stores and finished on a combination of grazed grass and a TMR ration. 35 hectares are farmed organically with 8000 hens in four mobile 2000 bird sheds laying eggs for Waitrose. 15 hectares of organic oats are grown for milling. They publish Agrimart, a monthly magazine produced for the farming community, mailed free of charge to 6000 farms and rural businesses from York to Aberdeen and in 2022 the treehouse was opened, providing holiday accommodation in a unique setting.
Joining Scottish Agronomy in 1994, as members of the Kelso Group, Guy found the Group structure unique to Scottish Agronomy and has found it an invaluable source of information and exchange of ideas. Currently acting as Chairman, Guy is proud to lead a Board of dedicated professional growers with experience across all sectors and geographical locations.
Guy still helps out on the farm at busy times, spraying not only their own crops but also for two of their neighbours.
