We recently opened our Scottish Agronomy trials plots at Balgonie in Fife to our farmer members and trade associates to showcase this season’s findings. It was great to see all those who came and thank you (we know it was for more than just the BBQ!).
The annual Open Days – which we hold across the regions – are excellent to see first-hand how different varieties are performing and responding to varied seed rates, inputs and disease pressures across barley, wheat and oats.
Our trials are carried out in similar geographical areas to our farming members’ so what is seen in the field will translate similarly on to their own farms – it’s very real, tangible information for them to use when they start making decisions on varieties to grow next season.
Getting together like this is also great for prompting discussion around priorities when it comes to output and risk management and a chance to bounce around ideas.
